Technodyne nets Port Arthur LNG contract

UK-based tank design and engineering firm Technodyne has won a contract from Bechtel for Sempra’s planned Port Arthur LNG export project in Texas.

The subcontract involves engineering services for Porth Arthur LNG, Technodyne said in a statement without revealing any additional information.

Technodyne is a part of Germany-based TGE Gas Engineering, which is a unit of China’s CIMC.

Technodyne and Bechtel previously worked on a number of tank designs inluding for Cheniere’s Corpus Christi LNG and Tellurian’s Driftwood project in the US.

“The award of the contract is a continuation of the established relationship between Bechtel and Technodyne,” the company said.

To remind, Sempra and Bechtel signed the final Porth Arthur EPC deal in March this year.

The scope of the agreement also includes continuing pre-final investment decision engineering.

However, due to the market conditions created by the Covid-19 pandemic, Sempra said in May it pushed the final investment decision on the LNG export development back to 2021.

The first phase of Port Arthur LNG includes a two-train plant with about 13 mtpa capacity and up to three storage tanks.

Sempra has a firm 2 mtpa deal for the project signed with Poland’s PGNiG in December 2018.

It also has a preliminary deal with Saudi Aramco signed in May 2019 under which the latter would take a 25 percent stake in the LNG project.
