Tenaris bags QatarEnergy gig to supply pipes for LNG expansion project

Luxembourg-based Tenaris said it has won a contract from QatarEnergy to supply a complete package of line pipes and bends for the giant Qatari LNG expansion project.

QatarEnergy, represented by its unit Qatargas, awarded the contract for the North Field East project following a “very stringent qualification process”, Tenaris said in a statement.

Under the deal, Tenaris would manufacture and supply QatarEnergy with 197,000 tons of welded, high-end sour service pipe, 11,800 tons of seamless pipe, and 206 bends, it said.

Also, the production of welded tubes would take place at Tenaris’s Confab mill in Brazil, while the firm would manufacture the seamless tubes at the Dalmine and Siderca mills, located in Italy and Argentina, respectively.

Tenaris did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

This new deal adds to several contracts QatarEnergy has awarded since it announced a final investment decision on its $28.75 billion North Field East project earlier this year.

Under the project, QatarEnergy will build four mega trains with a capacity of 8 million tonnes per year in the Ras Laffan complex.

This first phase of the expansion project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa.

QP also plans a second phase to further boost capacity to total 126 mtpa by 2027 as well as additional expansions.

The company’s unit Qatargas already operates in total fourteen LNG trains at Ras Laffan.
