Sovcmoflot LNG carrier completes test call at Kildin site

Russia’s Sovcomflot said its icebreaking LNG carrier recently completed a test call at Novatek’s temporary transshipment complex off Kildin Island in the Barents Sea.

LNG carrier Christophe de Margerie, named after Total’s late CEO, sailed into the strait that separates the Kildin Island and the Murmansk coast of Kola Peninsula last week.

The icebreaker Ob and tugboat Yuribey assisted the LNG carrier during the operations.

Christophe de Margerie took part in a series of tests to prove the funcionality of ship-to-ship LNG transfers Novatek is planing at the Kildin Island site.

The Russian LNG producer plans to use the facility for transhipment of LNG from Arc7 carriers to conventional carriers for onward distribution to Europe and Asia.

Sovcomflot said in a statement that the successful test call represents an important step towards developing the logistics supporting Novatek’s Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic.

This also includes Novatek’s second Arctic LNG project under construction and the company’s other developments in the Russian Arctic.
