Canada’s Energir in LNG bunkering milestone

Canadian energy firm Energir said it has completed its 100th LNG bunkering operation at the Port of Quebec.

As part of the milestone operation, Energir provided liquified natural gas via a truck-to-ship method to the LNG-powered tanker Rossi A. Desgagnes, owned by Desgagnes, on December 3.

All of the 100 bunkering operations involved Desgagnes’ dual-fuel tankers. The shipping firm has five LNG-powered oil/chemical tankers in its fleet.

Besides these operations, a Desgagnes’ vessel was also involved in the first LNG bunkering operation in the Great Lakes region, located along the Canada-US border.

Canada’s Hamilton Port operator teamed up with US firms REV LNG and Pivotal LNG to complete the bunkering operation in December last year.

The partners sourced the LNG from the Towanda liquefaction and storage facility, located in Pennsylvania.

On the other side, Energir supplies LNG from its liquefaction, storage and regasification plant in Montreal East in the Canadian province of Quebec.

With three loading docks, the plant can produce more than 10 billion cubic feet of LNG per year and store up to 2 Bcf in its two cryogenic tanks, according to Energir.

Apart from supplying LNG to vessels from the Port of Quebec, Energir also works at the Port of Montreal. The firm has last year celebrated its 100th LNG bunkering operation in total, including both ports.
