Sembcorp Marine to work with Bechtel on modules for second Pluto LNG train

Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine said it would work with US engineering and construction giant Bechtel on the expansion of Woodside’s Pluto LNG plant located on Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula.

In that regard, Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms has entered into a contract with a unit of Bechtel for module assembly of the second Pluto LNG train, according to a statement by Sembcorp Marine.

The two firms would form an integrated management team to manage the module assembly program for Pluto Train 2 and complete it in 2024, it said.

Previous collaborations between Sembcorp Marine and Bechtel include Australia Pacific LNG project but also the Wheatstone LNG project.

Sembcorp Marine did not reveal the price tag of the contract for the second Pluto LNG train.

Bechtel is the project’s EPC contractor and has recently awarded a contract to Baker Hughes as well.

In November, Australia’s Woodside took a final investment decision on the Scarborough and Pluto LNG Train 2 developments worth about $12 billion.

In addition, the approval includes new domestic gas facilities and modifications to the first Pluto 4.9 mtpa train on Burrup Peninsula.

Pluto Train 2 will process gas from the Scarborough offshore gas resource and have a capacity of about 5 mtpa.
