Australian LNG exports remain strong in November

Australian LNG exports almost hit a new record high in November, boosted by more shipments to China and South Korea, according to EnergyQuest.

In November, Australian projects shipped in total 7.15 million tonnes or 104 cargoes, slightly lower than the record of 7.23 million tonnes in October, the consultancy said in its monthly report.

Also, EnergyQuest estimates that Australian LNG export revenue increased in November to $5.77 billion, up from $5.44 billion in October and up by 196 percent on November 2020.

Overall, Australia’s November shipments had reached 87.0 Mtpa on an annualized basis which is higher than the record October shipments of 85.1 Mtpa on an annualized basis, it said.

When compared to the previous month, Australian projects delivered six fewer cargoes to Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan in November, but eight additional cargoes to China and Korea.

In November, China received 43 cargoes compared to 38 in October and 38 in November 2020.

West Coast shipments decreased to 4.9 Mt in November when compared to 5.1 Mt in October, with 71 cargoes in November compared to 73 in October.

As previously reported by LNG Prime, east coast shipments increased to some 2.2 million tonnes in November or 32 cargoes. The east coast projects operated at 104 percent of nameplate capacity during November.

In addition, there were three spot cargoes reported from the east coast in November and four spot cargoes from the west coast or 7 percent of total shipments, EnergyQuest said.
