Peru LNG shipped six cargoes in December, 2021 exports dip

Peru LNG’s 4.45 mtpa liquefaction plant at Pampa Melchorita shipped six cargoes in December to South Korea, Europe, and Canada, according to state-owned Perupetro.

Perupetro’s data shows that during December the LNG export plant had shipped two cargoes each to South Korea and Canada, and one cargo to the UK, as well as a single shipment to the Dutch Gate terminal.

This totals about 411,059 tonnes and compares to six cargoes in December 2020, or 438,903 tonnes, and five cargoes in the prior month, the data shows.

In total, the facility has exported 38 LNG cargoes or about 2.57 million tonnes during the last year, much less when compared to 55 shipments and about 3.97 million tonnes in the year before, the data shows.

However, the facility was offline for about two months during July and August due to repairs on a compressor.

Perupetro’s data shows that the plant did not export any cargoes in May, when the problem with the compressor occurred, and in July and August.

Following the outage, it exported its first LNG cargo to Spain on September 20.

Looking at the final destinations, Peru LNG’s plant sent eleven cargoes to South Korea, six cargoes to Japan, three shipments to Canada, and two cargoes to China last year.

The rest of the fuel landed in Europe, including the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, and France.

US-based Hunt Oil holds a 50 percent operating stake in the LNG plant, while SK and Marubeni have 20 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

LNG giant Shell also holds a 20 percent stake and takes all the volumes produced at the facility.
