Wartsila nets maintenance gig for NYK LNG carrier

Finland’s Wartsila will provide maintenance services for one LNG carrier owned by a unit of Japan’s shipping giant NYK as part of a deal revealed on Monday.

The tech firm said in a statement it had entered into a 13-year optimized maintenance agreement with Singapore-based NYK Shipmanagement.

According to Wartsila, the duo signed the deal in November.

The contract would ensure “maximum uptime and equipment reliability, with assured maintenance costs, for an LNG carrier featuring three Wartsila 50DF dual-fuel engines,” it said.

Also, the agreement covers maintenance and planning support. It includes Expert Insight, which enables dynamic, data-driven maintenance planning, optimizing maintenance needs and monitoring equipment and systems in real-time through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced diagnostics, Wartsila said.

It did not provide any additional information regarding the contract.

Worth mentioning here, NYK said last month it had signed a charter deal with India’s GAIL for one 174,000-cbm LNG carrier.

The duo signed the multi-year time-charter contract for the 2021-built Grace Emilia on December 20 during a virtual ceremony. This vessel features WinGD’s dual-fuel slow-speed engine.
