Hyundai Samho awards LNG tank job to GTT

South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has contracted Paris-based GTT to design tanks for one liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

The French LNG tank specialist won the order at the end of December, according to a GTT statement on Tuesday.

Also, the 174,000-cbm vessel would feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system, it said.

Hyundai Samho would deliver the vessel to an unidentified owner in the third quarter of 2024, GTT said, but it did not provide any additional information.

The Korean yard’s parent KSOE has recently revealed two large orders, which include the construction of two 174,000-cbm LNG vessels.

Under the first order, Hyundai Samho will build one LNG carrier for about $217 million for an unidentified Asian firm and deliver it by September 2024. Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that South Korea’s SK had ordered this vessel.

As part of the second order, the yard will build one LNG vessel for a European company and hand it over by March 2025. This order has a price tag of about $217 million as well.
