DSME clinches another LNG carrier order

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said it has received an order to build a new large liquefied natural gas carrier, boosting this year’s tally to three LNG vessels.

DSME said in a stock exchange filing on Monday the order is worth about 247.7 billion won ($208 million).

Also, the shipbuilder will deliver the vessel to an unidentified owner in Oceania by the end of December 2024.

DSME did not reveal any additional information regarding the order.

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime that Japan’s MOL could be the owner behind this order.

The new contract for DSME comes just two weeks after the yard won a deal from Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas to build two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

Maran Gas exercised an option for these LNG carriers as part of the original order signed between the duo in November 2021.

This Maran Gas deal marked the first order for DSME this year. Including the new carrier, DSME secured orders worth about $1.17 billion for three LNG vessels and one field control station.

Last year, the yard won about $10.8 billion in orders, exceeding its target of $7.7 billion.
