BV wins LNG carrier inspection gig from Nakilat

A unit of classification society BV has secured a contract from Qatari shipping giant Nakilat to assess the condition of the latter’s LNG carriers.

Under the three-year contract, BV Solutions Marine & Offshore said in a statement it would provide condition assessment program (CAP) surveys for 21 of Nakilat’s LNG vessels.

The contract will start this year. At the time of the CAP survey, all of these LNG carriers would be close to 15 years old (third special survey), BV said.

Moreover, BV said it would schedule all CAP surveys to coincide with Nakilat’s routine dry-docking processes in Qatar.

The firm did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

Nakilat recently joined forces with classification society ABS to develop its decarbonization strategy.

The LNG shipping giant said it has worked closely with ABS sustainability specialists to map out decarbonization pathways for the company’s fleet of 69 LNG carriers but also four very large LPG gas carriers.
