Anaergia says to build Italian bio-LNG plant

Canadian firm Anaergia said it has signed a contract to build a bio-LNG plant for Italian agricultural company Societa’ Agricola Agriferr ss di Zagni Matteo & C.

Under the deal, Anaergia would build Agriferr’s new plant using a range of proprietary systems, including the company’s first-ever renewable natural gas liquefaction system, it said in a statement.

Also, the firm said it would install its Triton digester, biogas upgrading system, and an on-site fueling station for end users.

Besides building the facility, Anaergia will operate the plant that will get fuel from agricultural waste for a period of four years.

The firm expects this facility to produce about 2,000 tons of LNG annually and to begin operations by the end of 2022.

Anaergia did not reveal the price tag of the deal or any additional information regarding the contract.

Italy has about 110 LNG filling stations throughout the country, one of the biggest networks in Europe, according to Brussels-based association NGVA Europe.

Last year, several firms revealed plans to work on bio-LNG plants in Italy for the transport sector, including Spain’s HAM Group.
