Lithuanian small-scale LNG facility loaded record number of trucks in 2021

Lithuanian LNG terminal operator Klaipedos Nafta said its small-scale facility in the port of Klaipeda has loaded a record number of trucks last year.

According to KN, the facility loaded 523 trucks last year, marking the “most active year” for the reloading station since it started operations back in 2017.

In total, the facility dispatched 1500 trucks and received 32 small LNG carriers. Most of the fuel, or 83 percent, landed in Poland, it said.

Poland’s dominant gas firm and LNG importer PGNiG is the only user of the Klaipedos Nafta facility as of April 2020.

The firm said in July last year it had loaded its 500th truck and the 1200th truck in total at the facility.

In Poland, the trucked LNG goes to off-grid locations, as well as a growing network of refueling stations developed for heavy-duty road transport as the country looks to meet its decarbonization targets.

The rest of the volumes end up in Lithuania for two regasification stations, as well as in Latvia and Estonia, PGNiG previously said.

The reloading station features five LNG tanks with a total capacity of 5,000 cbm. It has two loading bays for road tankers or ISO containers and a jetty able to receive and load LNG onto small-scale vessels.
