Malaysia’s Petronas in LNG trucking milestone

Malaysia’s Petronas said it has completed the 1000th LNG delivery via trucks, as part of its virtual pipeline system solution launched in 2020.

Petronas Energy & Gas Trading, a unit of the energy giant, recently supplied the milestone delivery to a customer in Chemor, Perak, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

In order to boost the use of LNG across Malaysia, the unit of Petronas launched the solution in 2020.

Since then, the VPS solution provided about 16 million kg of “low-carbon energy” by cryogenic vehicles, the statement said.

Petronas says the solution provides off-grid industries in Malaysia with an option to switch to gas.

As per the fuel source, trucks fitted with cryogenic tanks load LNG at the Petronas-operated 3 mtpa Pengerang regasification terminal in the southern state of Johor.

The firm is looking to add an additional tank to the existing two at the Pengerang facility as well.

Petronas issued a non-binding expression of interest in October for the proposed third LNG storage tank that it plans to use for reloading operations.

Subject to the project’s final investment decision, the tank could go online in the fourth quarter of 2025.
