MMA bags Ichthys LNG gig from Inpex

Australia’s MMA Offshore said it has secured a contract renewal for the Inpex-led Ichthys LNG export project.

Under the deal, the offshore vessel operator said its MMA Brewster would continue to provide production support services for the Ichthys gas field in Australia’s North West.

The new contract includes a firm period of five years, with five one-year extension options thereafter.

According to MMA Offshore, the contract has a price tag of A$68 million ($48.7 million).

The PSV would soon complete an initial five-year chartering service supporting the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project, having been designed and built specifically to support the energy company’s offshore facilities, MMA Offshore said.

Its sister vessel MMA Plover is also working on the project and MMA Offshore won a contract extension for this PSV last year.

The Ichthys project produces LNG at the 8.9 million tonnes per year plant at Bladin Point near Darwin.

Natural gas arrives in Darwin from the giant Ichthys field offshore Western Australia via an 890-kilometer export pipeline.

Ichthys LNG is a joint venture between operator Inpex and major partner France’s Total.

Other partners include Australian units of CPC Corporation Taiwan, Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.
