Delta’s Vietnam LNG power project to use Stena jetty-less tech

Delta Offshore Energy has selected Stena’s jetty-less technology for its LNG-to-power project in the Bac Lieu Province in Southern Vietnam.

This follows the signing of a technology license deal with Stena Power & LNG Solutions, a unit of the Swedish shipper.

Under the deal, DOE will employ Stena’s floating jetty-less autonomous transfer system and self-installing regas platform solutions.

This infrastructure will provide energy to the 3200MW power plant located in the Mekong Delta.

Svein Hellesmark, CTO at Stena Power, says the duo have been working on this project for more than two years.

DOE selected Stena’s “out of the box” jetty-less solution due to challenging tidal conditions at the project location.

The metocean and tidal conditions in Bac Lieu “are very challenging from a traditional FSRU deployment perspective,” Bobby Quintos, managing director – engineering at DOE, said.

He added the firm is looking forward to work with Stena to “usher in the next technological evolution in offshore LNG regas terminals.”

Worth mentioning here, McDermott recently won a contract from DOE to provide FEED services for the project’s subsea gas pipeline.

The pipeline will connect the LNG regasification platform located about 35 kilometers offshore to the planned power plant.

Following FEED completion, the US firm expects to win the project’s EPCI contract in the first quarter of 2021.
