Swedish tanker in US LNG bunkering milestone

A dual-fuel vessel owned by Sweden’s Furetank has become the first foreign-flagged vessel to bunker LNG in a US port.

Eagle LNG, owned by the Energy & Minerals Group, delivered the fuel to Fure Ven in the Port of Jacksonville.

This milestone paves the way for more international vessels to bunker at Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), a joint statement said.

The 18,000-dwt vessel transited the St. Johns River on 1 September, calling at JAXPORT’s Talleyrand marine terminal which serves Crowley Maritime.

Eagle LNG transferred 225 metric tonnes of LNG during a seven-hour operation to the vessel from their on-site storage facility.

The tanker carried renewable diesel cargo for Sweden’s petroleum and biofuels firm Preem.

Futhermore, marine firm GAC assisted all parties by broking the LNG fuel and providing ship agency services to the vessel during its voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.

The firm says this was the first time that its bunker fuels division had secured a deal to supply LNG as a marine fuel.
