Hyundai Heavy to build LNG carrier trio worth about $702 million

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has won a contract to build three liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers worth about $702 million.

Parent KSOE said on Thursday HHI would build the 200,000-cbm LNG carriers for an unidentified owner in Europe and deliver them in the second half of 2025.

According to KSOE, the contract has a price tag of 847.3 billion won ($702) million.

The LNG carriers would be 299.8 meters long and 48.9 meters wide.

Dynagas behind the order?

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime that Greece’s Dynagas was behind this order for three LNG carriers.

We could not confirm this by the time this article was published.

Dynagas also ordered four 200,000-cbm LNG carriers at HHI last year.

Besides this contract, KSOE said it has also received an order for six 8,000-TEU container vessels from an unidentified owner in Latin America.

HHI would build these ships as well and deliver them to the owner in the second half of 2024, KSOE said.

The total value for the nine vessels reaches 1.56 trillion won ($1.29 billion).

KSOE and its units won orders for 54 ships worth about $6.14 billion this year.

The shipbuilder has set a target for this year of $17.4 billion, compared to $14.9 billion last year. It secured in total $22.8 billion worth of orders during 2021.
