PHI clinches aviation contract for Woodside’s Scarborough project

Australian LNG player Woodside has recently selected PHI International to provide aviation services for its Scarborough project located off the coast of Western Australia.

PHI International said in a statement the “significant” Scarborough transportation contract would last for two to three years.

The firm did not provide the price tag of the deal.

Under the contract, New Zealand-headquartered PHI will transport personnel from Learmonth airport to offshore sites in the Carnarvon Basin off the northwest coast of Australia.

PHI would utilize a fleet of three offshore transport configured Sikorsky S-92 helicopters, based in Exmouth, to provide daily passenger transport and 24/7 aviation support services, it said.

The company added it would start providing its aviation services for the Scarborough project in 2023.

Woodside took the final investment decisions on the Scarborough and Pluto LNG Train 2 projects in November last year.

Besides the second train, the approval also includes new domestic gas facilities and modifications to the first Pluto 4.9 mtpa train on Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula.

Pluto Train 2 will process gas from the Scarborough offshore gas resource and have a capacity of about 5 mtpa.

The train will get gas from the gas field, located about 375 km off the coast of Western Australia, through a new trunkline long about 430 km.
