Finland’s Wartsila has signed a deal with Norway’s Knutsen to support the latter’s four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The service agreement covers the reliquefaction plant for the vessels and is designed to optimize their day-to-day operational performance, according to a Wartsila statement on Monday.
Wartsila said the two firms signed the contract in March 2022.
Moreover, the scope of the deal includes Wartsila’s digital operational performance improvement and monitoring system.
“This provides real-time data on Wartsila’s onboard equipment, thus enabling expert management and control to deliver cost-savings and more efficient operations,” the firm said.
Wartsila will also provide expert technical support, as well as servicing and spare parts support.
In addition, the tech firm will also provide advice on maintenance of the reliquefaction plant and supply spare parts during dry-docking of the vessels.
The five-year agreement will enter into effect from June 2022.
Wartsila did not provide the price tag of the deal.
In September last year, Wartsila said it had won a contract to supply reliquefaction equipment for three Knutsen’s LNG carriers.
Knutsen ordered these vessels at South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
According to Knutsen’s website, the company has at least 14 LNG carriers on order in South Korea and one LNG bunkering vessel in Spain.
