Petronas: Bintulu LNG complex starts receiving gas from Pegaga field off Malaysia

Malaysia’s Petronas said its giant Bintulu liquefaction complex has started receiving natural gas from the Mubadala-operated Pegaga field in Block SK320, off the coast of Sarawak.

Petronas revealed in a statement on Monday the field had commenced gas production.

UAE’s Mubadala operates Block SK320 with a 55 percent stake, while Petronas holds 25 percent and Sarawak Shell has the remaining 20 percent.

The production facilities, which consist of an integrated central processing platform and a wellhead drilling platform, have the capacity to produce 550 MMscfd of gas.

This gas goes through a new subsea pipeline tied into an existing offshore gas pipeline network, prior to arriving at the Bintulu LNG plant.

Malaysia LNG, a unit of Petronas, operates the 30 mtpa Bintulu LNG export facility in Sarawak.

According to Petronas, the facility has shipped 12,000 LNG cargoes since it started operations back in 1983.

The plant consists of nine trains and supplies key demand centers such as Japan, South Korea, China, and Taiwan.
