DSME to build three LNG carriers for about $707 million

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has won a new contract to build three liquefied natural gas carriers, boosting this year’s tally to ten LNG vessels.

DSME said on Thursday the order for the very large LNG carriers has a price tag of about 863.5 billion won ($707 million).

Also, the shipbuilder said it will deliver the supersized carriers to an unidentified owner in North America by the end of December 2025.

DSME did not reveal any additional information regarding the order.

Shipbuilding sources previously said that US exporter Venture Global LNG was looking to order 200,000-cbm carriers at DSME, the company’s first move into LNG shipping.

This order could be related to Venture Global but we could not confirm this by the time this article was published.

Including the new contracts, DSME secured orders worth about $4.18 billion for 18 ships and one field control station.

The orders include four LNG carriers for Greece’s Maran Gas and the recent order for two vessels linked to BW LNG.

DSME has now achieved about 47 percent of its annual target of $8.9 billion.

Last year, the yard won about $10.8 billion in orders, exceeding its target of $7.7 billion.
