Singapore’s FueLNG completes first STS LNG loading operation

Singapore’s FueLNG, a joint venture consisting of Keppel Offshore & Marine and Shell, has completed what it says is the first ship-to-ship LNG loading operation in Singapore.

Earlier this week, Singapore’s first LNG bunkering vessel, the 7,500-cbm FueLNG Bellina, loaded liquefied natural gas from the Shell-chartered LNG carrier, Pan Asia, at Raffles Reserve Anchorage.

FueLNG said in a statement the 174,000-cbm LNG carrier was enroute to a discharge terminal in South East Asia.

“This is the first time LNG has been loaded via ship-to-ship transfer in Singapore and enhances Shell’s LNG bunkering supply chain resilience by diversifying its LNG sources,” the statement said.

With its strategic geographical location, Singapore is a major transit point for vessels including LNG carriers transporting LNG east or westwards.

Moreover, FueLNG said it can load LNG from Shell’s global fleet of carriers passing through the Port of Singapore, and use the fuel to provide a bunker for customers in Singapore.

The JV has completed over 460 operations in 2021, comprising ship-to-ship and truck-to-ship bunkering, but also truck-to-industry operations.

FueLNG’s bunkering ship is currently the only provider of STS bunkering in the country.

It completed more than 24 STS bunkering operations since March 2021, contributing to the growth of the LNG ecosystem and the country’s ambition to become a leading LNG bunkering hub.

The vessel mainly bunkers CMA CGM’s LNG-powered containerships.
