Japan’s Hokkaido Electric Power said it has received its first LNG cargo from the US at the Ishikari import terminal.
The utility purchased the spot cargo from Jera that has a stake in the Freeport LNG export facility in Texas.
Furthermore, Jera and NYK Line’s 177,000-cbm Shinshu Maru delivered the US cargo to the Ishikari facility on Monday.
Regasified LNG will be supplied to Hepco’s adjacent Ishikariwan Shinko gas-fueled power plant.
Hepco says this marks also the first ever LNG cargo from US to land at Hokkaido, Japan’s second-largest Island.
The utility shares the Ishikari LNG import terminal with operator Hokkaido Gas.
The latter operates the first two LNG storage tanks while Hepco controls the third LNG tank and the upcoming fourth one scheduled for launch next month.
