Samsung moving forward with 2nd Minerva LNG newbuild

South Korean shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries is continuing works on another newbuild vessel for Greek LNG shipper Minerva Gas.

The yard held a keel laying ceremony for the 174,000-cbm vessel to be named Minerva Chios on September 15.

The vessel, scheduled for delivery next year, features WinGD’s X-DF propulsion and GTT’s Mark III Flex Plus containment system.

Minerva Gas, a unit of Andreas Martinos-led Minerva Marine, has three sister vessels on order at Samsung and this is the second ship in this batch.

To remind, Samsung launched the first vessel Minerva Kalymnos on July 18.

The Greek shipping firm has another two 173,400-cbm LNG carriers under construction at the DSME yard in Korea.
