BW confirms DSME LNG carrier orders

BW LNG, a unit of Singapore-based gas giant BW, confirmed it has placed orders for four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The vessels would feature ME-GI propulsion, full reliquefaction system, air lubrification system and shaft generators, giving “superior fuel consumption and best-in-class emissions,” BW LNG said in a statement on Wednesday.

DSME will deliver the new LNG carriers to the owner in 2025.

BW LNG did not provide any additional information regarding the order.

The firm already has two similar LNG carriers under construction delivering in 2022 and has taken delivery of seven ME-GI vessels since 2018.

These include the 174,000-cbm BW Lesmes, chartered by BP, and the 174,000-cbm BW Helios which also serves BP.

LNG Prime reported in November last year that BW LNG had ordered two LNG carriers for about $207 million per vessel at DSME, including two options.

Sources also said that BW LNG was the owner behind a recent order at DSME for two LNG carriers as well, boosting the total to four LNG newbuilds.

These two vessels are worth about $430 million or some $215 million per ship.
