Inpex in Ichthys LNG cargo milestone

Japan’s Inpex has shipped the 200th LNG cargo from its Ichthys liquefied natural gas export project in Australia.

The 145,000-cbm Energy Advance departed Darwin Harbour on Sunday afternoon carrying the milestone shipment to Chiba, Japan.

Since start-up in 2018, the Ichthys project exported in total 345 cargoes to customers around the globe. These include 54 LPG, 34 plant condensate and 57 field cargoes, according to Inpex.

The project produces LNG at the 8.9 million tonnes per year plant at Bladin Point near Darwin.

Natural gas arrives in Darwin from the giant Ichthys field offshore Western Australia via an 890-kilometre export pipeline.

Ichthys LNG is a joint venture between operator Inpex, major partner France’s Total. Other partners include Australian units of CPC Corporation Taiwan, Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.
