A unit of the German engineering giant Siemens has secured a contract from Nigeria LNG to provide a cryogenic boil-off gas (BOG) compression train for its Bonny Island plant.
Siemens Energy says the solution will play a key role in providing additional BOG handling capability and spares for the existing system.
Additionally, the new BOG compression train will be driven by a “high-efficiency” electric motor. It also includes two Siemens Energy centrifugal compressors.
This will help contribute to NLNG’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the German firm said.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the duo held all discussions remotely via virtual meetings, according to Siemens.
Furthermore, manufacturing, testing, and packaging of the compression train will take place in Duisburg, Germany. Siemens plans to deliver the equipment in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Located in Finima, the 22 mtpa Bonny LNG plant has been in operation since 1999.
The joint venture behind the six-train plant including NNPC, Shell, Total, and ENI is adding an additional unit to boost capacity to 30 mtpa in total.
