Poland’s Gaz-System moving forward with Gdansk FSRU

Poland’s gas infrastructure operator Gaz-System is pushing forward with the planned development in Gdansk Bay that includes installing an FSRU.

The firm said on Wednesday it signed a letter of intent with the Port of Gdansk Authority and the Maritime Office in Gdynia to cooperate on the project.

The document defines the role of each of the parties in the construction of the FSRU terminal, it said.

Gaz-System plans a 4.5 Bcm/year FSRU in Gdansk Bay and has recently launched a non-binding market survey for the facility.

The state-owned firm already operates Poland’s first and only LNG import terminal in Swinoujscie via its unit Polskie LNG while PGNiG is in charge for all the supplies.

Poland has significantly increased LNG purchases via its terminal in Swinoujscie following PGNiG deals with Qatargas and Cheniere.

In 2019, PGNiG imported 3.43 billion cubic meters of LNG into Poland, a rise of more than 25 percent year-on-year.
