C-LNG Solutions nets FGSS contract for Matson’s containership

Singapore-based C-LNG Solutions said it has won a contract from US firm Matson Navigation to provide its LNG fuel gas supply system for one containership.

The vessel in question is the 3,220-teu LNG-ready, Daniel K. Inouye, built in 2018 by US-based Philly Shipyard.

It is a part of Matson’s Aloha Class vessels, the largest containerships built in the US, designed specifically for Matson’s Hawaii service.

In order to meet the new IMO regulations, Matson has now decided to retrofit and install the LNG FGSS to the LNG-ready Daniel K. Inouye, according to a statement by C-LNG.

Under the contract, C-LNG will supply three 1350-cbm type C LNG fuel tanks with in-tank pumps and tank gauging system, low-pressure vaporizer and buffer tank, glycol-water system, and N2 system.

The contract also includes bunker stations, automation and control system, ship to shore link, as well as gas detection system to suit MAN B&W 7S90ME-C10.5-GI main engine and Himsen 6H27DF and 9H27DF auxiliary engines.

C-LNG said the system would meet both DNV and USCG rules and regulations, and the firm expects to deliver the equipment within 13 months.

The company did not provide the price tag of the deal or which yard would install the new equipment.

Another deal after MSC’s first LNG-powered containership

“It is another important project for C-LNG since we successfully delivered the LNG FGSS for the first-ever LNG powered newbuild 14000-teu container vessel, MSC Washington, for MSC,” Sunny Xu, the President of C-LNG Solutions.

“Thanks to the trust of Matson, we are sure we will create another benchmark in the LNG retrofit market,” Xu said.

To remind, Switzerland-based shipping giant MSC recently took delivery of its first LNG-powered containership, MSC Washington, as the company looks to decarbonize its operations.

China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in Jiangsu delivered the vessel on March 24, and it arrived in Singapore on Sunday, according to its AIS data,

This new vessel features a type C bi-lobe LNG tank that can store about 12,300 cbm of LNG, the world’s largest type C LNG tank, according to C-LNG.
