Monadelphous clinches APLNG contract

Australian engineering firm Monadelphous has secured a new contract from compatriot Origin Energy to work on the Australia Pacific LNG export project.

Under the three-year deal, Monadelphous would provide turnaround and shutdown support services at Origin’s coal seam gas upstream facilities for APLNG operations in Queensland, it said in a statement on Thursday.

Monadelphous did not provide any additional information regarding this deal.

In addition to this APLNG contract, Monadealphous revealed other new contracts and contract extensions in the resources and energy sectors in Australia and Papua New Guinea totaling about A$230 million ($171.6 million).

Earlier this year, US energy giant ConocoPhillips completed the purchase of an additional 10 percent shareholding interest in the APLNG project from Origin Energy for about $1.64 billion.

ConocoPhillips now has a 47.5 percent share in the project but it also operates the 9 mtpa LNG export facility on Curtis Island near Gladstone and the export sales business.

Origin Energy operates APLNG’s gas fields and now holds a 27.5 percent share. China’s Sinopec owns a 25 percent share in APLNG as well.
