TotalEnergies welcomes second AET’s LNG-powered VLCC to its chartered fleet

TotalEnergies will soon put in use the second LNG-powered very large crude carrier (VLCC) it has chartered from Malaysia’s AET, a unit of MISC.

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the 300,000-dwt tanker, Eagle Vallery, on Friday, according to a statement by AET.

Eagle Vallery is the sister vessel to the LNG-powered Eagle Valence delivered earlier this year.

Also, Eagle Valence is TotalEnergies’ first LNG-powered VLCC, but also one of the world’s first dual-fuel vessels of its kind.

TotalEnerges and AET signed the long-term charter deals for the 330 meters long and 60 meters wide vessels in April 2020.

The French firm previously said these two ships make part of a broader program of six newbuild tankers designed with LNG dual-fuel propulsion.

TotalEnergies expects to receive four additional LNG-powered ships between 2022 and 2023.
