Poland’s PGNiG receives 100th LNG delivery from Qatargas

Poland’s dominant gas firm and LNG player, PGNiG, said it has received the 100th liquefied natural gas cargo from Qatargas at the regasification facility in Swinoujscie.

PGNiG is in charge of all the supplies coming to the Swinoujscie import terminal operated by Gaz-System.

Gaz-System is currently expanding this facility, adding a third tank and the second jetty as well as an LNG-to-rail installation.

PGNiG has a long-term contract with Qatargas under which it receives about 2 million tonnes per year or about 2.7 billion cubic meters of gas.

The company said in a statement that the 217,000-cbm Q-Flex LNG carrier, Al Shamal, owned by a joint venture of Nakilat and Seapeak and chartered by Qatargas, delivered the milestone cargo on Saturday.

Al Shamal brought about 200,000 cubic meters or 90 million tonnes of LNG to the Swinoujscie terminal which started operations back in 2015.

Since the beginning of this year, PGNiG said it has received six ships from Qatar, eight from the US and two from Nigeria at the facility.

In addition, the new LNG delivery marks the 164th shipment since the start of operations of the country’s only regasification plant.

Last week, PGNiG also imported its first cargo of liquefied natural gas via the Klaipedos Nafta-operated FSRU-based facility in the port of Klaipeda, as part of efforts to diversify supplies to Poland.

To remind, PGNiG recently said that Russia’s Gazprom had cut supplies to Poland via the Yamal pipeline but the firm would continue to increase LNG imports via the Swinoujscie facility.
