Brunei LNG appoints first female MD

Brunei LNG said it has appointed Farida Dato Talib as managing director and chief executive starting October 1.

With this appointment, Talib becomes the first female MD and CEO in the history of the LNG producing firm.

As managing director, Farida will take responsibility for the production and sale of LNG, which in 2019 alone contributed over B$1.1 billion ($808m) to Brunei’s economy, the firm said.

She will also provide strategic direction of the business, running with a total workforce of more than 600 employees.

“Farida’s appointment marks a great step towards diversity and inclusion and marks a momentous milestone in Brunei LNG with the appointment of the first female local managing director in the history of the organisation,” the statement said.

The 6.7 mtpa Brunei plant is one of the world’s oldest LNG export facilities. It marked its 50th anniversary last year.

The owners include the government of Brunei with a 50% stake, and Shell and Mitsubishi with a 25% share, each.
