Venture Global inks Plaquemines LNG supply deal with Petronas

US LNG firm Venture Global LNG has signed a long-term liquefied natural gas supply deal with a unit of Malaysian energy giant Petronas.

Under the sales and purchase agreement, Venture Global will supply about 1 mtpa to Petronas LNG from the Plaquemines project in Louisiana for a period of 20 years.

With this agreement, Venture Global has now announced 20-year sales for 16 mtpa of the 20 mtpa nameplate capacity at Plaquemines LNG, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

This deal comes just a day after the US firm revealed supply contracts with a unit of ExxonMobil for both Plaquemines LNG and the planned CP2 LNG facility.

Venture Global said in March it had planned to take formal FID on Plaquemines LNG “soon” and close project financing.

The firm aims to build the project in stages and the first phase of the project will have a capacity of 10 mtpa, while the full 20 mtpa development includes four tanks, and three jetties.

“This contract represents a significant expansion of our existing customer base in Asia and we particularly look forward to Petronas bringing our competitive, lower carbon energy into Southeast Asia, a region with rapidly growing gas demand,” Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global, said in the statement.
