Technip Energies and Chiyoda are moving forward with the construction work on the giant expansion LNG export project in Qatar’s Ras Laffan in order to start production in 2025.
Their joint venture CTJV won the key onshore engineering, procurement and construction contract from state-owned LNG giant QatarEnergy and its unit Qatargas in February last year.
The EPC award is part of the $28.75 billion North Field East project and includes building four mega trains with a capacity of 8 mtpa in the Ras Laffan complex.
This first phase of the expansion project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa, while the second phase will further boost capacity to total 126 mtpa.
Qatargas currently operates in total fourteen LNG trains at Ras Laffan.
Technip Energies said in an update that CTJV, its subcontractors, and Qatargas celebrated on March 5, 2022, the arrival of two ultra-heavy acid gas removal absorbers. The engineering firm posted the update on its website on May 15.
The JV held a special event at the North Field East project’s site in Ras Laffan.
The absorbers, manufactured by Hitachi Zosen in Japan, then shipped from Kobe Port, each weigh 1,353 tons with a diameter of 8.7 meters and 45 meters in length, according to the firm.
Also, the two pieces of equipment reached Ras Laffan Port in Qatar on February 24 and were then transported to the site by a 120-axle-line SPMT, which covered the 10 kilometers distance from port to laydown area in eight hours under the escort of police vehicles, it said.
