GTT confirms HHI contract for six LNG-fueled containerships

France’s GTT confirmed a tank design order for six LNG-powered containerships with South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries.

GTT said in a statement it won the contract for the 7,900-teu vessels in April.

The tanks of the vessels will have a capacity of 6,000 cbm and they will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

The Paris-based firm said the delivery of the vessels would take place between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025.

GTT did not provide any additional information.

HHI’s parent KSOE revealed this order last month. Brokers and shipbuilding sources said that Switzerland-based shipping giant MSC was behind this deal as well an order for 14 LNG dual-fuel containerships at China’s New Times.

The Korean shipyard will build these ships for about $134 million per vessel.

Also, the containerships will have 272 meters in length, 42.8 meters in width, and 24.8 meters in height.

Besides GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system, the vessels would feature MAN ME-GI engines, one source previously said.
