Titan delivers bio-LNG to Furetank’s tanker in Amsterdam

Dutch firm Titan LNG has completed what it says is the first bio-LNG delivery in the port of Amsterdam.

Titan said in a social media post that its FlexFueler 002 barge supplied about 60 tonnes of bio-LNG for the 2021-built Fure Vinga tanker last week.

The bio-LNG delivered to the tanker, and all of the bio-LNG Titan uses, has received a full ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification, according to the Dutch supplier.

“Not only does this delivery unlock new supply possibilities for Furetank in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region, but it is also a milestone for Amsterdam, as its first delivery of bio-LNG,” Titan said.

Earlier this year, Swedish shipowner Furetank said it had signed a deal to secure bio-LNG for its product and chemical tankers, as it looks to further slash emissions.

Furetank signed a letter of intent with Eskilstuna Biogas, enabling the development of a new biogas plant producing around 5,000 tonnes of LBG or bio-LNG annually.

Besides this move, the firm ordered another LNG-powered tanker at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou.

Following delivery in January 2024, the 17,999-dwt dual-fuel tanker would become the ninth in the Vinga series.

Adding to Furetank’s order, Erik Thun also ordered the tenth vessel in this series in March this year.

Furetank owns four and commercially operates all of the FKAB-designed ice-class tankers under Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance.
