GTT books another LNG tank order

French LNG containment giant GTT continues to book new orders on the back of a strong demand for LNG carriers at yards in South Korea and China.

The Paris-based firm said in a statement on Tuesday it won a contract in April from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

Under the contract, GTT will design the tanks of two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers. Each tank will be fitted with GTT’s NO96 GW membrane containment system.

GTT said DSME would deliver the first vessel in the third quarter of 2025, and the second in the third quarter 2026.

The tank specialist did not reveal any additional information.

This order could be related to an announcement by DSME released on April 18 but the delivery dates do not match.

DSME said then it would build two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers for about $428 million and deliver them to an unidentified owner in Oceania by the second half of 2026.

These LNG carriers will feature MAN’s ME-GA dual-fuel engine and a reliquefaction system.

Shipbuilding sources and brokers said that Japan’s MOL was behind this order.
