Gazprom makes another gas find off Russia’s Yamal

Russian state-owned giant Gazprom has found more natural gas at the Leningradskoye field offshore Yamal in the Kara Sea.

This marks the fourth major discovery made by Gazprom offshore Yamal over the last two years.

Following drilling and testing of an exploratory well, the new discovery showed a flow rate of about 600,000 cubic meters per day, Gazprom said.

This proves that the new deposit contains “substantial” amounts of gas. But also the field’s commercial value is now much higher than before, the Russian firm said.

The Leningradskoye gas and condensate field is located in the Kara Sea within the Leningradsky licensed block.

Gazprom estimates the field’s current recoverable gas reserves to total 1.9 trillion cubic meters.

Additionaly, Gazprom discovered last year the Dinkov and Nyarmeyskoye fields on the shelf of the Yamal Peninsula in the Kara Sea.

Earlier this year, the company found the 75 Years of Victory field on the Yamal shell as well.
