South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering said Monday it has won orders worth 2.02 trillion won ($1.76 billion) to build six LNG carriers.
The giant shipbuilder revealed the orders in two separate fillings with both including three LNG carriers. Each vessel has a price tag of about $293 million.
According to DSME, it will deliver the first trio by July 2023 followed with the second batch by the end of the same year.
The yard said it would build the vessels for a European shipowner but it did not reveal any further information.
LNG Prime understands that the vessels will be used to transport LNG for Novatek’s Arctic LNG 2 project in Russia.
DSME previously built all the 15 Arc7 ice-class LNG carriers for Novatek’s Yamal project in the Russian Arctic.
