GTT clinches order for LNG carrier quartet

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured orders for four new liquefied natural gas carriers from two South Korean yards.

GTT said in a statement it had won the orders in May from Hyundai Samho and Hyundai Heavy to design the tanks of the LNG tankers.

Each of the yards will build two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers for an unidentified Asian owner.

According to the Paris-based firm, these LNG carriers would be fitted with its Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

The Asian owner would take delivery of the vessels between the first and the fourth quarters of 2025, GTT said, but it did not provide any additional information.

This order is most likely related to the announcement by KSOE issued on May 17.

KSOE said in that announcement that the deals for the four LNG carriers were worth about 1.17 trillion won ($910 million) or some $227.5 million per vessel.

Sources and brokers said that South Korea’s SK Shipping had ordered these four vessels on the back of a charter with Malaysian energy giant Petronas.
