Croatian first FSRU arrives in Rijeka

Croatia’s first FSRU has arrived in Rijeka in the northern Adriatic Sea following a three-week long trip from China.

In Rijeka, the vessel will on Wednesday enter the Viktor Lenac yard for final testing prior to departure to its base on the island of Krk.

The vessel will undergo commissioning activities in December at the Krk facility followed by the commercial start on January 1, 2021, according to state-owned terminal operator LNG Croatia.

To remind, the FSRU LNG Croatia departed China’s Huarun Dadong yard in Shanghai on September 22 after the yard and its parent CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua delivered it to Golar.

LNG firm Golar won a deal last year to provide its 2005-built 140,205-cbm vessel Golar Viking to the Krk project and convert it to a FSRU.

After that, the LNG firm tapped Hudong-Zhonghua to perform conversion works and agreed a $160 million sale and leasback deal for the vessel with CSSC Leasing, the leasing unit of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

The ship arrived at the Huarun Dadong yard in January this year and reached completion some nine months later.

Following arrival and commissioning at the Krk facility, Golar will officially hand over the FSRU to LNG Croatia but will continue operating and maintaining the unit for ten years.
