Croatian FSRU gets second US LNG cargo in a week

State-owned terminal operator LNG Croatia has received its second LNG cargo from the US in a week at the FSRU-based Krk import facility, according to shipping data.

LNG Croatia said in a statement that the 173,400-cbm British Achiever had docked at the 140,000-cbm FSRU on Saturday, but it did not reveal any additional information.

According to its AIS data provided by VesselsValue, the 2018-built LNG carrier, chartered by BP, previously picked up the cargo at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana.

This marks the 31st LNG cargo since the start of operations in January last year and the second US cargo to land at the FSRU in a week.

Last week, the 2018-built, 174,000-cbm Castillo de Merida, owned by Elcano and chartered by Naturgy, delivered a shipment to the FSRU from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility as well.

Croatia’s FSRU usually receives about two LNG cargoes per month.

Earlier this year, the terminal boosted its capacity from 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas to 2.9 bcm per year without new investment.

Croatia is also nearing a decision to further increase the capacity of its FSRU-based LNG import terminal, as European countries look to slash reliance on Russian gas.

The country plans to even double the regasification capacity of the terminal to some 6.1 bcm.

With the capacity expansion, the facility could cater to demand in neighboring countries such as Slovenia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and others.

Slovakia also received LNG from Krk and recently said it would receive new supplies via the facility.

The FSRU mostly receives cargoes from the US. It also welcomed shipments from Qatar, Nigeria, Egypt, Trinidad, and reloads from Dunkirk and Zeebrugge.
