Disney’s first LNG-powered cruise ship delayed

Disney Cruise Line, a unit of the US-based Walt Disney Company, said its first LNG-powered vessel will make its debut later than expected due to Covid-19-related delays.

The Disney Wish will embark on its maiden voyage in summer 2022 due to pandemic-related delays at Germany’s Meyer Werft shipyard, the firm said in a statement.

Previously, Disney expected to take delivery of the vessel in late 2021 with operations start in early 2022.

The company’s fifth vessel in its fleet will weigh in at about 144,000 gross tons and include 1,250 staterooms. That makes it slightly larger than Disney’s current ships, the Dream and the Fantasy.

This is the first LNG-powered vessel out of three Disney has on order at the German yard.

The two other vessels were slated for delivery in 2022 and 2023.
