GTT bags tank gig for LNG-powered containership quartet

French LNG containment giant GTT said it has secured a new order for LNG-powered containerships in South Korea.

Hyundai Samho picked GTT to design tanks of four LNG dual-fuel container vessels with a capacity of 7,900 units.

According to GTT, each of the vessels will feature one 6,000 cbm LNG tank fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment technology.

The Paris-based firm said the delivery of the vessels would take place during the third and the fourth quarter of 2024.

GTT did not reveal any additional information regarding the order.

“This new order confirms the strong momentum of LNG as a fuel that started in 2021, and the growing interest of international shipyards and shipowners for GTT’s membrane technology in this segment,” GTT’s chief Philippe Berterottière said in the statement.

Earlier this year, GTT won a similar contract from Hyundai Samho for three LNG-powered vessels, each with a capacity of 7,900 containers. Idan Ofer’s Eastern Pacific Shipping was behind this order.

After that GTT, also secured a contract for three 7,700-teu LNG-powered containerships ordered by EPS.

Besides these EPS vessels, CMA CGM has six LNG-powered 7,900-teu container vessels on order at Hyundai Samho, but these ships are scheduled for delivery in 2025, according to data by VesselsValue.
