CMA CGM takes delivery of LNG-fueled Galapagos

French shipping giant CMA CGM has taken delivery of the 15,000-teu Galapagos, adding another LNG-powered container vessel to its fleet.

CSSC’s Jiangnan Shipyard delivered the dual-fuel ultra-large container vessel during a ceremony held on Monday, according to a statement.

This ship is the fourth out of five 15,000-teu LNG-powered vessels Jiangnan will build for CMA CGM.

In September last year, CMA CGM took delivery of LNG-powered Patagonia, the first vessel in this series, followed by Kimberley in December, and Everglade in January this year.

The fifth and the last LNG-powered vessel in this batch, Greenland, will join the fleet this year as well.

With a 366 meters length but also 51 meters in width, these containerships will be able to carry up to 15,254 TEUs, including 1,800 reefers, according to CMA CGM.

Moreover, they feature GTT’s Mark III containment system and WinGD’s dual-fuel engines.

They will all sail under the French flag between Asia and the Mediterranean, serving CMA CGM’s Mediterranean Club Express (MEX) route.

CMA CGM is heavily investing in LNG as fuel and recently revealed orders for ten new LNG dual-fuel containerships and six methanol-fueled vessels, bringing its orderbook to 69 ships.
