GTT clinches new LNG tank gig from Samsung Heavy

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured another order from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the new contract, GTT will design the tanks of two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers scheduled for delivery in the last quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2026, according to a statement.

The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT said that SHI is building the vessels for an European shipowner, but it did not reveal more details regarding the contract.

This order could be related to an announcement in May where SHI revealed an order for two LNG carriers with an Oceania-based owner worth about $462 million.

SHI will hand over these very expensive carriers by March 2026.

Sources and brokers said that Greece’s TMS Cardiff Gas had placed this order on the back of a charter with Malaysia’s Petronas.
