Excelerate appoints Deborah Byers as independent director

US floating LNG player Excelerate Energy said that the company’s board of directors has increased its size from six to seven members and appointed Deborah Byers as a new independent director.

In addition, Byers will serve as chairperson of the company’s audit committee, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

Byers recently retired as a partner from Ernst & Young and brings 36 years of public accounting experience to Excelerate’s board, the statement said.

“Deborah’s extensive energy industry knowledge will be invaluable to the organization as we strive to grow the business globally,” Don Millican, chairman of the board, said in the statement.

“This addition also demonstrates our commitment to strengthening and diversifying our corporate governance. We thank her for accepting this responsibility to lead and provide independent management oversight,” Millican said.

Excelerate operates ten floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), one of the world’s largest fleets of such vessels.

In April, the firm completed its initial public offering, raising about $416.2 million.
