French LNG containment giant GTT said it has secured an order from South Korea’s HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) for two LNG-fueled containerships.
According to a statement by GTT, these two 7,700-teu vessels will each have a 6,100-cbm LNG tank.
The tank will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III membrane containment technology.
GTT said that HJSC would deliver the ships to an European owner in the fourth quarter of 2024, but it did not provide any additional information.
Earlier this year, HJSC has secured a basic design approval from LR for a 7,700-teu LNG dual-fuel containership.
The LNG-fueled container vessel has a length of 272 meters and a cruise speed of 22 knots.
HJSC also said the vessel’s LNG tank will have a capacity of about 6,100 cbm and features GTT’s Mark III membrane system.
GTT’s chief Philippe Berterottière said in the statement that GTT looks forward to working with its long-time partner HJSC again.
“With this new order, the total number of containerships equipped, or under construction, with GTT technology amounts to 76 vessels, confirming the attractiveness of our cutting-edge technological solutions for LNG used as fuel,” he said.
Navios Maritime Partners placed the order
As previuosly reported by LNG Prime, Navios Maritime Partners, led by Angeliki Frangou, ordered these vessels for $241.2 million.
In addition, Navios Partners has a two-month option for two additional LNG dual-fuel containerships at the same terms, delivering in the second quarter of 2025.
Navios Partners said it had chartered the first two vessels for 12 years, at an average net rate of $42,288 per day, but it did not reveal the charterer of the ships.
Shipbuilding sources said that South Korea’s HMM took these two LNG-powered vessels on charter.
